CEO Lunch featuring Dr. Norvell Coots of Holy Cross Health

Dr. Norvell V. Coots, M.D., President and CEO of Holy Cross Health,  spoke to Members of Leadership Montgomery at the organization’s quarterly CEO Lunch Event Series. These events, exclusively for LM Members at the Business Legacy Leader and Leadership Level Grad Levels, provide an opportunity for LM Members to hear directly from leaders of local companies and organizations in an intimate setting. CEO Lunches (which have previously featured Terry Forde of Adventist HealthCare, Anne Lindblad, Ph.D. of The Emmes Corporation and David Petr of The Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation to name a few) impart insight into the CEO’s industry as well as facilitate discussion surrounding leadership and working within the County.

During this session, Dr. Coots delivered a robust overview of the history of Holy Cross Hospital, its origins and its footprint in Montgomery County. Dr. Coots also examined the current health care climate while outlining successes and challenges within the health care industry. With the uncertainty of the ACA, doctor shortages and telecommunication increasing in demand, Dr. Coots discussed ways Holy Cross Health is adapting its philosophy and practices to keep up with current trends.

During the lunch, Dr. Coots also discussed the advantages to providing care to Montgomery County’s distinctly diverse community. More than 75 languages and 100 dialects are spoken within its walls.  He recalled a conversation with one of the front desk volunteers who was “always excited to see the world come through the front doors of the hospital”.

Following his presentation, Dr. Coots graciously answered questions from the attendees on topics such as the ACA and the future of health care. He concluded his Q&A session by answering a question surrounding challenges of leadership. He delightfully recounted a time in his career when he had to deliver outstanding leadership in times of adversity. ”Motivating others sounds easy, but it can be a real test to the effectiveness of leadership, making it critical to organizational success.”

The next CEO Lunch Series is scheduled for Fall 2018. Renew or upgrade your membership today to join the discussion.
