Project Description

LM Class year: 2009

Hometown(s): Bethesda, MD and Lewes, DE

Title/Company: President & CEO, Fixation Marketing

Describe what your company does: Fixation is a full-service marketing communications firm, based in Bethesda, MD. We provide strategic marketing consulting, content development, creative design (print and interactive communication) to organizations (businesses and non-profits) that have something to sell. And everyone has something to sell, right? It could be a tangible product, but can also be a service (membership) or a good cause.

Describe what you do in your role at the company: As the owner of Fixation, my responsibilities include steering the internal culture; running the day-to-day operations; ensuring that current customers are getting the service and results they want; and cultivating brand new client relationships.

Describe your community involvement:  I’ve served on the Board of Directors of Leadership Montgomery for the past 4 years. I’ve chaired the recruitment committee of LM for 3 years, recruitment committee member for 1 year. I’m an active volunteer with Washington Animal Rescue League (WARL). As a company, Fixation shops and donates Thanksgiving dinner fixin’s to the NCCF each year. Through A Wider Circle, Fixation “adopts” a family at Christmas, divides up to-do lists to shop, wrap and deliver a special holiday to a family in need.

Favorite LM memory:  Opening Retreat, September 2008, I remember feeling overwhelmed, challenged and exhilarated at the same time. As always, it’s a first-time meeting with 45-50 of the classmates you’ll spend hours and days with over the next 9 months. The group was so smart and accomplished. A diverse group of leaders.  After spending the better part of 2 intense days together, I knew we had barely scratched the surface of what we could accomplish together and could not wait for the next session so I could get to know them better.

Favorite way to spend your free time/recharge:  Summer, early evening, a glass of wine, guacamole & chips, good friends and a porch swing is hard to beat.

Name a leader that inspires you:  Michelle Obama… for poise, intelligence, thoughtfulness, progressive values, grace under pressure, fashion sense and parenting skills.
