Project Description

LM Class year:  2010

Hometown:  Born and raised in Kansas City; proud 32-year resident of Bethesda

Title/Company:  President & Founder, Capacity Partners, Inc.

Describe what your company does:

Capacity Partners is a strategy and development consulting firm for local, regional and national nonprofits.  We offer fully customized services in strategic planning, fundraising, board development, and organizational vitality that help our clients achieve transformative results.

Our experience encompasses many content areas including human services, public-private partnerships, education, advocacy, arts, environmental, health, and international causes.

Describe what you do in your role at the company:

I am deeply committed to helping people get to the heart of challenges and achieve their goals, so serving clients with excellence and passion is my most important role.

As the firm’s leader, I bring together great combinations of talent to create the most effective team for each client.  I am fortune to work with fantastic partner consultants, each with their own subject matter and industry expertise.

Firm culture matters a lot to me.  I work hard to empower our team—and also our clients—to be creative, to express their unique strengths, and to support each other’s passion for making a difference in the community.

Describe your community involvement:

For the past five years I’ve served on the Leadership Montgomery board which has enabled me to give back to the community in many ways, an experience I’ll always treasure.  This year I had the honor of joining the board of The Greater Bethesda Chamber of Commerce.  Recently I served on the dynamic board of Montgomery Women, and over the years I’ve volunteered with many wonderful organizations including Montgomery College Alumni Mentoring Program, Washington Waldorf School, the Abused Persons Program, and the Technology Innovation Fund of Montgomery County,

Favorite LM memory:

Getting to know and sharing laughs with my amazing 2010 classmates at the initial retreat, realizing how close we had all become during our fun-filled closing retreat, and then finding that it didn’t stop there!  Many of those friendships have deepened over the past 7 years in phenomenal ways.

Favorite way to spend your free time/recharge:

After work – water aerobics.  Weekends – relaxing at home with my husband, Peter.

Name a leader that inspires you:

Eleanor Roosevelt, because I admire her courage and perseverance in overcoming her severe shyness and other inner struggles.  She went on to represent her country and speak her own voice to the entire world, leaving a legacy as a woman of incomparable intelligence, insight, and compassion.
