LM Hosts LM Serves Day at Junior Achievement Finance Park
Leadership Montgomery’s (LM) Day of Service, in partnership with Junior Achievement Greater Washington (JA) and hosted by the Junior Achievement Finance Park at Thomas Edison High School of Technology, was an absolute success!
LM Serve Days take place 3 times a year and provide our diverse membership an impactful way to connect with each other and the broader community. Over 20 LM’s graduates, which included leaders from the corporate, government and nonprofit sectors representing a wide range of industries, volunteered their time with students from Briggs Chaney Middle School.
On April 29th, our LM graduates came together to provide an awesome experience in simulating the life of a bill-paying adult with over 70 of the middle school kids. Initially, the kids we were weary of such an experience; “Why would we care about paying bills? We like shopping but we don’t have to pay!” said a few of the students. When actually participating in the simulation, the kids gained a better understanding of the activity and had a great time! They understood the technology being utilized and were guided through the simulation by our LM graduate volunteers while the awesome JA team guided our volunteers! The middle schoolers really enjoyed seeing how the decisions that they made impacted their “familial situations” and many commented “Now I understand what my mom and dad mean about money doesn’t grow on trees!’
Great job all around! Please look at some of the pictures form the LM Day of Service here:
